Works for Me: Ironing Just Got Easier

Listen to this.

I figured out a way to make ironing my husbands' dress shirts (and anything else in the ironing pile) a breeze, even with 2 little boys around.

Because, believe me, I have no desire to iron during their nap times. Or at night when my husband is home. Our time together is limited enough as it is, without some huge ironing board standing between us.

So a month or so ago, I decided to try ironing outside. Yes, outside. :) Is that insane, or what? But hear me out, because I LOVE this solution.

I take everything out into the garage, open both garage doors, and let the boys play in the driveway and ride bikes back and forth on the sidewalk. They LOVE to play outside and are always begging to go out. But how am I going to get anything done if we just play outside all day? Now all the guilt is gone...I'm not ignoring the boys by ironing, and they get to play outside too!

What a great idea. My sister in law used to do this too. I hate ironing with a passion and feel I never quite catch up so usually put on a good film and battle through until I can't bear another second!

GREAT idea! It is getting a bit less hot (!) and I may have to try it myself!

I love hearing solutions of moms! (esp. my freinds who are moms) I hope I can be that creative and work with the situations I have when I have kids!

Haha, I wonder what your neighbors think!?
Good idea though!
Lately I've been using the dry cleaners, but I hate how expensive it is.

Jenica,
I know...I so wonder what goes through people's heads when they drive by and see a woman ironing in the garage???? It makes me laugh just thinking about it.

The ladies who walk by (usually retired age) always exclaim about what a wonderful idea it is, but then again, they are from a different generation. :)

I say without guilt that I have not owned an ironing board for over four years now. I will now take a moment to thank God that my husband does not have to wear dress shirts to work. (I use the "toss them in the dryer" method, or the "hang them in the bathroom while I take a shower and hope that the steam smooths out the wrinkles" method!)

Rach, I shared your idea with a gal at work today! She said she was definitely going to give it a whirl! And, I may even take it up...if I ever start ironing!! :-)
