Saturday update

I love, love, love this. Having kids old enough for sports. This is worth getting up early on Saturday mornings! Ethan is enjoying soccer so much this year...and really improving too! He scored 2 goals today!

Poor Simon is dying to play too, and honestly, he is almost as good as Ethan (maybe better). I don't think they have 2 year old leagues, but he wishes....

Dave let him sit on the bench for part of the game today. :)

I haven't posted much since our trip, but things are good. We're trying to do school a few times a week (I'm trying, Ethan is begging :), and so far, so good. Ethan is reading the first level Bob Books pretty well. There are a few books with 6 and 7 word sentences, and he always worries that they are too long for him to read...but he can sound them out every time. I am just LOVING that he is learning to read and is so excited about it!

San Diego - Day 7

Friday morning we breakfasted at The Cottage (thanks, Joanna! you were not kidding!) a fun breakfast place in La Jolla. I had the special, Mediterranean scrambled eggs with goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, and fresh basil, cottage potatoes, and an english muffin with jam. Oh, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Oh. my. goodness. I would KILL for another plate right now! It was sooooo good.

The zoo was next.

The animals at the San Diego Zoo have quite the hook-up! Lots of beautiful scenery.

Bears have the life!

Time for a snack.

Stare-down with a zebra.

The Panda was shy - and very sensitive to noise.

Koala!

Polar bear behind glass.

Sweaty mess, ornery as all get out... but those eyes! I cannot resist them.

What a difference a season makes...

Dave and Chris are coaching Ethan's soccer team this fall. It was fun to see how much he's improved over the summer.

San Diego - Day 6

We spent Thursday in La Jolla, the north part of San Diego. We had brunch at a yummy, little outdoor place and then hit the beach.

There is not much to say. La Jolla is lovely. Can I please go back?????

Ethan's first day of preschool

The day has finally arrived. It's been much anticipated around here, let me tell you. There is no doubt that Ethan is dying to learn - he has practically taught himself to read, and so I'm finally stepping up and teaching the poor kid. Oh my goodness - he is so excited!

This morning he practically bounced out of bed, eager to begin the first day of the rest of his life. I remember feeling the same way about school, but I'm just so surprised that my boy is like that too.

Even though this is preschool (slow down, kid, don't you know you have the rest of your childhood to go to school!), my main goal is to teach him to read. I'm using The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading by Jessie Wise and Sara Buffington. We did the first three lessons today - he would not let me stop!

We did some workbook pages too, cutting and pasting, and drawing lines. Oh, what fun!

Okay, who taught him to write his name?????
