We're there!

I cannot believe we are finally here. San Diego is everything we had hoped - and more! The weather has been gorgeous, and the neighborhood where we are staying has such a fun atmosphere. 6 houses from the beach! Is this the life or what?!

We flew in yesterday around noon (California time) and after finding our condo, headed straight for the beach. The boys brought along buckets of sand toys that they found in the garage here, and they played for hours building sand castles and running in the waves. Dave got in a little body boarding too!

Me? I was reading a book on my towel - happy as a clam. The water was a little cool for me. Actually, it's probably just that the temp here is cooler than I'm used to - low 80's with a breeze, which feels incredible when you're not wet.

In the evening we drove around looking for somewhere to eat dinner along the waterfront.

Look what we found!

Apparently there are tons of Jayhawk fans in San Diego too! We knew we liked this town! (And of course we had to eat there :).

Tonight I went for a run on the beach at sunset. I could not believe how much I enjoyed it (I rarely enjoy my runs these days - and am always trying to think of a way out of them! Then I try on my jeans. That always does it). It was considerably easier with the salty mist of the sea blowing across my face and the wet sand to cushion my stride. I think I'm going to have to move here!

Alright, places you must visit:

1.) La Jolla beaches, specifically the "Chilrens Pool". This is where all the seals come up and beach. I felt a special kinship with these animals.

2.) Hotel Del Sol on the island across the bay from downtown. The beaches there were the prettiest we saw in San Diego.

3.) The sunset cliffs at, well, sunset. It's absolutely beautiful watching the sun set over the ocean. While there, be carefull what you let the boys pick up and play with...

4.) Old downtown. This is the original main street from the 1860's after the gold rush. It's really pretty cool.

5.) The San Diego zoo. The best zoo, by far, I have ever been to. It's one of the best in the world. Also, around the zoo, there are alot of free museums you can go to.

Oh...also I know I am really fair skinned (like ethan) but just be warned that those clouds and breezes can really trick you! I got 3rd degree burns on one of the trips out there visiting relatives!

Stacy, we're here until Saturday. I know, I kinda kept my eye out for you yesterday while we were at Mission Beach, "just in case"... :)

Thanks, Josh!

Reagan, we are liberally applying sunscreen. No burns so far!

I am with you on the water being too chilly. We went in April (2007) and even though it was my first time to see the ocean, I was NOT getting in. Most of the trip I had on a coat and scarf. I guess I just expected it to feel "tropical" since it was the ocean.

I hope you guys have so much fun!

I got to spend a month and some there in college and I LOVED IT. I NEVER run but somehow I found this energy and I tried to run a few times a week down the beach. It is hard to run in the sand but it is so much more fun than concrete. :-) Hope you guys are having a great time.

Glad to see the pictures and to know that you are having a fun time in SD. We are back from Alaska and had a wonderful time there - Dad has many pictures - so we will have to show them to you. Love, Mom

PS: Happy Birthday Dave!

Have a blast! I still remember the zoo from when my family took a trip there when I was little. You need to frame that picture of you and the boys on the beach.
