Ever tried homemade cleaners?

Recently Shawna reminded me that if I run out of dishwashing detergent, I can just use white vinegar and baking soda in my machine until I get to the store. I had totally forgotten about that trick, and you know what, it works so well! You just put the white vinegar in the door compartment (to shine up the glasses and prevent spotting), and dump some baking soda in the floor of the dishwasher. Such a good tip!

Interested in other homemade cleaners? "Ask Frugal Momma" today is all about how to make your own stuff. Hey, if you're not really into shopping around at several stores to save money, here's one way you can shave some dollars off your household budget. Buy the ingredients at a warehouse store, and they will last you a long time!

Has anyone else used any kind of homemade cleaner? I.e. laundry soap, bathroom cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, all-purpose cleaner? My mom reminded me that she used to use white vinegar on my hair after shampooing to give it shine. What about you? Have you ever tried anything like that?

I have friends that make laundry soap that they just love. I guess I don't really make any cleaners, but I do use plain vinegar for fabric softener when I can't find a deal on it.

Ugg vinegar in my hair. That must be why I have such a strong dislike for that smell, it seriously makes me gag when I smell it.

hmmm... my comment didn't show up. i'll try again.

since vinegar seems to be the theme: run vinegar through your coffee maker to clean. then, while it is still hot dump in down your drains to freshen/clean them too.

this isn't really "homemade" but instead of buying silver polish you can just use toothpaste and a soft bristle toothbrush. just scrub, rinse, and dry. works great!

i looked into making my own laundry soap, but just decided it wasn't worth the hassle to me right now. i like using purex and it's cheap (at Target anyway) or i can usually find a good sale on it. so, i guess i'm just a "pre-made" cleaner person. maybe someday i will feel more ambitious. you know, when i'm older and more tired! :o)

a friend of mine uses rubbing alcohol to clean her countertops and other things. she just puts it in a spray bottle and cleans away. i have to admit, i am a weirdo and love the smell of that stuff.

Hey,

I've done a little in the past, but I will keep your idea handy. Who would've thought?

I've used baby oil to get some old tape off of our wood floors when NOTHING else worked. The tape held down rugs that the previous owners had. So if you have sticker fanatics, that's the way to go!

I think your prayers worked! Today was the most light hearted day I had for the longest time. I truly mean that. The Lord is good. Thank you

Glad to hear that, Michelle! We are all so dependent on the Lord, whether we realize it or not, and none of us can do this mothering thing without His help. I find myself praying under my breath DAILY, begging the Lord to give me patience. :)

The Lord is faithful!
